« BackWinner at Grove City College BEST robotics continues victorious ways
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The winning school team in the Grove City College-sponsored BEST robotics competition continued to succeed by winning the overall BEST award at South’s BEST regional competition in Auburn, Ala. Cornerstone Christian Preparatory Academy of South Park, Pa., received several honors during the Dec. 1-2, 2012, contest.
The South’s BEST award includes a robot competition (Cornerstone was 15th), an engineering notebook, an oral marketing presentation (Cornerstone was third), a team exhibit (Cornerstone was second), and a spirit and sportsmanship category. Cornerstone also took third for Creative Design and third for best team mascot.
To go to South’s BEST, Cornerstone won the BEST award at Grove City College’s Wolverine BEST hub (www.gcc.edu/BEST) held on campus in October. Wolverine BEST is sponsored by Grove City College, ANSYS, Inc., the Grable Foundation and Bechtel Plant Machinery.
BEST, Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology (www.bestinc.org), is a workforce development program that provides a sports-like science and technology-based robotics competition. It uses problem-based learning to inspire middle and high school students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology and math.
Cornerstone Christian Prep (www.cornerstoneprep.net) was founded by Brandon McCall, a 2008 graduate of Grove City College. Located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, the school provides an academically rigorous Christian education for college bound high school students. Cornerstone's professional mentor, Josh Peterson, is a 2003 graduate of Grove City College and works for ANSYS, Inc.
