Grove City College President to celebrate 50 years on campus at Sunday Vespers
GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City College President Richard Jewell ’67 will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of his first day on campus at Sunday Vespers at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, at Harbison Chapel on campus.
Dr. Jewell will deliver the Message during Sunday Vespers entitled “The Charitable Heart,” on the same day he came to the College as a student 50 years ago.
A reception will be held in Rathburn Hall on campus immediately following Sunday Vespers. Refreshments will be served.
Jewell graduated from the College in 1967 with high honors in political science. He went on to earn a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Michigan School of Law and served in the United States Army from 1969-1971. Jewell also served for many years as a trustee of Grove City College. He was the youngest trustee ever in the history of the College.
Jewell announced that he will step down at the end of this academic year at last month’s Opening Convocation. In making the announcement to the campus community, President Jewell said, “It is time to pass the baton to the next leader and for me to move on from this place that I love, knowing that together we have made a difference in the lives of our students and graduates. As I have said many times, this has been the opportunity of my lifetime. I look forward to sharing my final academic year with all of you.”
