GROVE CITY, Pa. –Yvonne English ’97, interim executive director of The Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the College, was selected as advisor for the 2014 Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academic Competition, also known as the “the House App Contest,” by U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly (PA-3).

“I am very pleased to announce Yvonne English as the advisor of this year’s STEM competition. Her expertise in the fields of business and computer technology will be put to tremendous use as she mentors this year’s participants and overseas the contest proceedings,” Kelly said. “With full awareness of how vital this program is for encouraging the creativity of young minds in our district, I am truly grateful to have Ms. English on board. I look forward to seeing what products our students will create and wish each of them the very best of luck.”

“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen to participate in such a worthy endeavor. This competition will shine a light on the creativity and talent of our youth. The future for Pennsylvania is truly bright,” English said.

The Congressional STEM competition is designed to engage student’s creativity and encourage their participation in STEM education fields. Established by members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this competition is a nationwide event that allows high school students from across the country to compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

The House App Contest is open to all high school students in Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District. Students entering the competition must submit their app’s source code online during the competition submission period that ends April 30, as well as provide a YouTube or VIMEO video demo explaining their app and what they learned through this competition process.
