As part of the Music for the Spirit Festival concert, Manfred Honeck and the PSO pay tribute to the good in mankind. The Gift, commissioned by the PSO in honor of long-time Board Chair Richard P. Simmons, makes its premiere. Beethoven’s Ninth is his final symphonic masterpiece and one of the most recognizable pieces of all time. The text of its final movement is taken from Friedrich Schiller’s poem, “Ode to Joy,” which celebrates harmony among mankind – certainly music for the spirit!
