Jack Kennedy Memorial Alumni Achievement Award Recipients 

Maj. Gen. Kenneth D. Merchant ’80
is Director of Global Reach Programs in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, at U.S. Air Force Headquarters in Washington, D.C. As the capability director, General Merchant is responsible for airlift, air refueling, training and special operations programs.

General Merchant was commissioned in 1980 through the Air Force ROTC program at Grove City College where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering management. READ MORE

John B. Merlette Sr. ’68
graduated from Grove City College in 1968 with degrees in mechanical and metallurgical engineering. He then began a career as a mechanical and aerospace engineer designing and fabricating advanced composite structures using carbon fiber-reinforced materials.

Merlette was the first to design a 'graphite' golf club shaft and to patent a 'graphite' bicycle wheel. He also designed and fabricated advanced composite satellite and other aerospace components.


Dr. Randall L. Wilber ’76
is a Senior Sport Physiologist at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He has been privileged to work with Olympic champions Michael Phelps (swimming), Missy Franklin (swimming), Meb Keflezighi (track), Galen Rupp (track), Kristin Armstrong (cycling), Apolo Ohno (speedskating) and Bill Demong (Nordic ski). Wilber has been a staff member of Team USA at six Olympic Games. In addition, he serves as a consultant to the U.S. Navy SEALs on issues related to combat performance at high altitude.

Distinguished Service Award Recipient

Anne (Harker ’60) Dayton has a rich Grove City College history as the daughter of the College’s fourth president, John Stanley Harker '25 and the granddaughter of a former dean of students.

After graduating with a degree in history in 1960, Dayton went on to earn her Masters degree in history from Case-Western Reserve. She is a retired public school teacher and Slippery Rock University English professor. She and her husband own Slovak Folk Crafts in Grove City, Pa.
