Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: I have never been around a horse and don’t know the first thing about horses – am I still able to attend?
A: Yes! Horseback mounting or riding is optional for this event, and no horse experience is required. Our equine experts will assist you every step of the way, and you can gain as much horse experience as you desire. Many participants of past adventures have had no experience with a horse. As long as you have an open mind and are willing to learn and practice leadership techniques, you will be able to apply them with a horse.
Q: What is accelerated experiential learning?
A: Forget sitting in a hotel ballroom for several days to learn about leadership. Instead, imagine being on an active horse ranch as the backdrop for improving your leadership skills, where you are thrust into a new role to learn world class leadership skills in a more meaningful way. You will work with horses on one of our certified Leadership Adventures ranches, and learn life-long leadership principles that will help you to lead horses and people! Accelerated experiential learning is proven to be more effective and more fun. And you will come away with tools, techniques, and memorable experiences that will immediately improve your leadership skills. Think of it as learning through adventure — like you’ve never experienced before!
Q: What exactly will we do on this adventure?
A: We will do a mix of activities including networking events at the bonfire, leadership lessons in the tack room, work with a horse on the scenic pastures, movie night at the ranch, and much more!
Q: What, specifically, will I do with a horse?
A: In short, you will learn how to lead a horse. We have activities designed to help you learn to lead a horse, and within these activities you will gain hidden skills that apply to leading people. You will learn how to approach a horse, how to prepare a horse through grooming, how to saddle a horse, how to lead a horse with a lead rope, and, if desired, how to mount and/or ride a horse. Note that mounting or riding on a horse is not required for this adventure.
Q: What do I wear to something like this?
A: Jeans and cowboy boots of course! The dress for this event is “cowboy-casual” or “cowgirl-casual”. Aside from jeans and your favorite flannel shirts, there are a few apparel items you will need, including a cowboy hat with stampede strings and boots. Don’t worry, we can point you to the nearest store in your area to pick up these items. We will contact the store before your arrival and they will know exactly what you need. After all, you’re a wrangler in training!
Q: Where will we sleep?
A: Enjoy rustic accommodations on the ranch. We have double occupancy and single occupancy rooms available. Or, if you prefer to stay at the nearby hotel, that is also an option.
Q: How do I get there?
A: If flying, you will fly into Hayden/Yampa Valley airport (airport code = HDN). We prefer you arrive at the airport by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Our shuttle service will be waiting to meet you and take you to the ranch. If driving, your destination will be Craig, Colorado. We can provide all the details for you via phone.
Q: When should I plan to leave?
A: Our activities will begin Sunday evening and end mid-day on Wednesday. You should plan to depart on Wednesday afternoon, or Thursday morning. If flying, we will coordinate a shuttle to get you back to the airport.
